Best eSIM for Norway: eSIM4

eSIM4 is the best choice for most trips to Norway. Its plans start at $2.98 for 1GB over 7 days on the Telia network. That is the lowest starting price of the 8 providers on this page, before promo codes. Unlimited plans run from $9.98 for 3 days to $67.98 for 30 days. We checked all prices on October 13, 2026.

Why eSIM4 Is Our Top Pick

  • Telia network: Telia is one of Norway’s two largest mobile networks, says Nkom, the national telecom regulator.
  • Calls and texts: Call and text real phone numbers with the Yabb app over your data.
  • Hotspot on every plan: Share your data with a laptop or a travel partner’s phone at no extra cost.
  • Buy now, start later: Your plan starts when you activate it, so you can buy before your trip.
  • No ID check: You do not upload any ID to buy.
  • 12 plans: From 1GB for 7 days up to unlimited data for 30 days.
  • 24/7 support: Real people on live chat and email rather than a help-centre article.

How to Pick Data Plans for Your Trip to Norway

Pick a Norway data plan by network, data, phone, calls and cost per GB.

Factor Ask Why it matters
Network Which network does the eSIM use: Telenor, Telia or Ice? Signal varies most in the mountains and the far north.
Data How much will you use for maps, social media and video? Buy enough to avoid a top-up, but not much more.
Phone Is your phone unlocked, and does it support eSIM? Check this before you pay.
Calls and SMS Do you need to call or text local numbers? eSIM4 sells data plans. Add the Yabb app for calls and texts.
Cost per GB What does each GB cost? Bigger plans cost less per GB. eSIM4’s 1GB plan is $2.98 per GB; its 20GB plan works out at $1.20 per GB.

Which eSIM4 Plan Fits Your Trip?

Pick by trip length and by how much video you watch.

Your trip eSIM4 plan Price
City break in Oslo, Bergen or Trondheim1GB, 7 days$2.98
One week, normal use3GB, 30 days$5.98
Two weeks, normal use5GB, 30 days$8.98
A month, normal use10GB, 30 days$15.98
A month, heavy use20GB, 30 days$23.98
Streaming, video calls or hotspotUnlimited, 3 to 30 daysFrom $9.98

Unlimited plans give full speed for the first 3GB each day. After that, speed drops to about 1 Mbps until midnight local time. Not sure how much you need? Try our travel data calculator.

Stay Connected in Norway: Fjords, Lofoten and Svalbard

Coverage across Norway is strong where people live, but remote areas have gaps.

There are three mobile operators in Norway: Telenor, Telia and Ice. eSIM4 uses Telia. Nkom, the national telecom regulator, found that 99.7% of homes had basic 5G coverage at the end of 2024. Away from homes, the signal is thinner. Nkom says 99% of Norway’s land is sparsely populated, and 83.6% of that land has basic 4G or 5G coverage.

Fjords and Lofoten

Expect gaps in network coverage on long drives, ferries and hikes. Before a road trip to the fjords or Lofoten, check your route on Telia’s coverage map. Telia says the map is only a guide. Download offline maps over Wi-Fi before you set off.

Svalbard

Longyearbyen, Svalbard’s main town, has mobile coverage with 5G (Telenor). eSIM4’s Norway plans run on Telia, and we could not confirm Telia coverage on Svalbard. Ask eSIM4 support before you buy for a Svalbard trip.

Cruises and Hurtigruten

Your eSIM works whenever your phone picks up Telia’s signal, such as in port. Out at sea, big cruise ships switch on their own mobile service. Norwegian Cruise Line says its service works only in international waters, and the charges go on your home phone bill. The EU says ship services that run over satellite have no price caps (Your Europe). Turn off data roaming on your home SIM before you sail. Hurtigruten gives free Wi-Fi on all its ships, but it warns that speeds can be slow in remote areas.

Prepaid SIM Card, eSIM or Roaming in Norway?

A travel eSIM is the quickest choice for short-term visitors. A local SIM card gives you a Norwegian phone number, but it needs ID and more steps.

Local SIM Card

Telia sells a prepaid starter pack. You register it with BankID, a Norwegian digital ID. If you have no BankID or Norwegian ID number, you must buy it in a Telia store. Any SIM card in Norway needs ID: since January 1, 2025, Norway has required valid ID, such as a passport, to buy a mobile subscription (Nkom).

Why eSIM4 Is Easier

eSIM4 needs no ID check and no shop visit. It emails your QR code straight away, so you set it up at home before you fly. When you land, switch it on to connect to Telia. Your plan starts when you activate it.

Roaming in Norway With Your Home SIM

If your SIM is from an EU country, you can use it in Norway at home prices. EU free roaming is “available in the countries of the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway)” (Your Europe). Your operator may cap how much data you use at home prices. Visitors from outside the EU and EEA pay their own carrier’s international roaming fees. With an eSIM4 plan, you skip those fees.

Saily comes from Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN. Its app adds an ad blocker, web protection and a virtual location to every plan at no extra cost (Saily).

Coverage

Saily does not publish which local network carries its Norway plans. Its help centre has no list of operators by country either, so you cannot check your carrier online before buying. If your trip goes on to other countries, you can add those plans to this same Saily eSIM instead of installing a new one.

Activation Process

Saily sells plans on its website and in its app. Website orders send a QR code by email, while app buyers tap Install eSIM. Set it up before you leave home. Your plan then starts by itself once you land in Norway.

Calls

Yabb calls landlines and mobiles in more than 200 countries. You buy minutes as you need them, with no contract. Use it to call a hotel, a tour company or a restaurant.

Texts

Yabb sends SMS to more than 200 countries. You pay only for the texts you send, with credit packs from 100 to 5,000 texts.

App Calls

WhatsApp and FaceTime calls also work over your eSIM data. They only reach people who use the same app.

How to Install and Activate Your Norway eSIM

Install your eSIM at home over Wi-Fi, then switch it on when you land.

  1. Check your phone: Your phone must be unlocked and eSIM compatible. Dial *#06#. If an EID number shows, your phone supports eSIM on most models. Our EID guide explains more.
  2. Buy: Pick your Norway eSIM plan. eSIM4 emails your QR code straight away.
  3. Install: On Wi-Fi, scan the QR code in your phone settings under “Add eSIM” or “Mobile Data”. See our iPhone and Android install guides.
  4. Activate: When you land in Norway, activate your eSIM: turn on the eSIM line and turn on data roaming for that line. Your plan starts when you activate it.
  5. Home SIM: You can keep your home SIM on for calls and texts. Turn off its data roaming, so you avoid roaming charges from your home carrier.
